ften referred to as the County’s meeting place, the Barley Room has established itself over the years as a friendly place to gather with friends for a glass of good cheer, casual but delicious fare, and great musical entertainment.

Named after the period in Prince Edward County’s history known as the Barley Days (from 1860 to 1890), the restaurant commemorates days of farming, shipping, and shipbuilding success in the County, It was a period when barley and hops were grown in abundance and shipped across the Great Lakes to brewers in the United States.

Visitors enjoy the décor of the Barley Room. It is housed in what was the Waring family’s kitchen (probably dating from the 1820s or 1830s) and their stone walled drive-through carriage shed. The walls are adorned with wonderful antiques found in Ontario homesteads of yesteryear as well as colourful and witty carvings by local artisan, Robert Daniellis. In winter a warm fire awaits. In summer, guests enjoy the screened, outdoor patio or cool, air-conditioned interior.

The extensive menu is a lovely combination of casual appetizers and really great tasting finer fare. Daily homemade soups, main course selections, pastas, hot pots and, of course, delicious homemade desserts are featured on the daily specials board. The inn’s award-winning wine list, with an extensive selection of local wines, local Barley Days Brewery beer, single malt Scotch, and mixed drinks are featured in the bar. The Barley Room has earned its reputation as the place to enjoy live entertainment every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, as well as selected Sundays. The place is alive with the best in folk, jazz, 50s to 70s blues, and more! And there’s no cover charge…ever!
