Green Features
At the Waring House in Picton, Ontario, green means integrating every green feature that owners Christopher and Norah Rogers could possibly think of when they recently expanded the Inn.Waring House Solar Panels
  • Geothermal heat – totally energy efficient heat from Mother Earth.  Converts to air conditioning in the summer.  Of note, we have not been able to locate another facility in Ontario such as ours which is geothermally heated and air conditioned
  • Niagara water-efficient, "flapper-less” toilets designed by a Phil Hennessy from Prince Edward County
  • Energy efficient bulbs or dimmer-controlled lights
  • Solar-powered hot water heating
  • Energy efficient, electric fireplaces
  • A septic system using a bio-filter system - the water that leaves it and goes into the tile bed is very low in nitrates and could almost be used in the garden
  • Bathroom soaps (packaged in paper) and shampoos that are totally biodegradable and green – the bottles are made from corn
  • Luxurious (and huge) bath towels and robes made from 100% renewable resource cotton
  • Mattresses with pillow tops that can be zippered and replaced, rather than throwing mattresses away
  • Beds will be changed every other day (unless the guest request otherwise) to save on detergents and water
  • Maintain pesticide-free lawns and gardens
  • Support local, in-season food producers and organic growers to reduce transportation costs
  • Recycle
  • Compost food scraps and grass clipping
  • Ensure laundry is done in the most energy-saving and environmentally-friendly fashion possible; e.g. gas dryers versus electric, commercial washing machines versus household machines
  • Use environmentally-friendly cleaning products
