Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We’ve signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, committing to meaningful, measurable improvements in environmental, social, and economic stewardship because we intend to care for the planet with the same dedication we bring to breakfast service.
Guided by the UNWTO’s principles of Sustainable Tourism, we continually refine our practices to support our local community, reduce our footprint, and ensure our guests can enjoy low-impact luxury with a clear conscience.
Our Green Commitments

Locally Sourced Food (Feast On® Certified) Our restaurants meet the Ontario Culinary Alliance’s strict standards for local sourcing. We grow vegetables on-site, supplement from nearby farms just minutes away—our chefs proudly work with more than 40 local suppliers. “Farm-to-table” isn’t a trend here—it’s our culture.
Geothermal Heating & Cooling The Quaker and Heritage Lodges run entirely on geothermal technology. Each room has its own thermostat, allowing guests to stay cozy without the environmental impact.
Recycling, Composting & Kitchen Initiatives We recycle wherever possible and are actively working toward comprehensive composting and zero food waste—because good food deserves a second life.
Bee Kind Amenities Our toiletries support bee wellness research, come in biodegradable packaging, and smell amazing. We avoid herbicides and pesticides entirely. This means our annual dandelion display—while slightly rebellious—serves as vital early-season fuel for bees and other pollinators.
In 2022, we welcomed 15 beehives cared for by a local beekeeper. The honey produced from these hives are used in our restaurants and is for sale in our Gift Shop. Our gardens are intentionally planted with bee- and butterfly-friendly species to keep our winged neighbours well fed.

Ozone-based laundry sanitation (lower energy use, fresher linens)
Thousands of trees planted onsite over the years, including 5,000 in 2017 alone
Responsible Furnishings Our mattresses boast long lifespans and zippered pillow toppers for sustainable refreshes—not replacements. We also feature Muskoka chairs made in Canada from recycled plastic.
Lighting & Energy Efficiency LED lighting is utilized throughout the property, most on dimmer controls. Energy-efficient electric fireplaces bring the ambiance without the waste.
Water-Smart Everything
Our Niagara “flapper-less” toilets (yes, that’s really the term) use 54% less water.
The Lodges and banquet hall use a Waterloo bio-filter system that returns exceptionally clean water back to the land.
We skip plastic water bottles—enjoy Picton’s wonderful local water.
Hot water is pre-heated using solar energy because sunshine is abundant and carbon-free (Currently under repair and shall be operational again soon).
